"Because of the Cross, we are able to walk in freedom" by: Caleb Gibson

When the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln, all American slaves were freed.
It had been two and a half years since this executive order had been issued. Yet there were documented cases where some slave owners tried to hide this news, and slaves remained in bondage because they didn’t know they were free.
According to the National Public Radio, “Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, with 2000 troops and a message - slaves were free.”
Many slaves were held in bondage because the news was hid. In a similar way, I believe the enemy is doing the same thing today. He wants to hide this knowledge that you have been made a new creation in Christ. I’m here to proclaim the news to you today that because of the Cross you are made completely new! You are no longer a slave to sin, but you are a servant of the king!
Now walk in the freedom you already have!
Michael Angelo once said, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set free.” God wants to see you living in freedom. Sometimes we do not see ourselves the way God does. It’s time to put on our grace glasses and see who we are. Because of the cross, God has taken away all of the gunk and sin that held our wings down.
Don’t hold on to what God removed. Stand tall knowing what He has done.
After Moses came down the mountain with the Ten Commandments. The Israelites had made a golden calf and were worshiping it. The Scriptures tell us, “On the next day Moses said to the people, “You yourselves have committed a great sin; and now I am going up to the Lord, perhaps I can make atonement for your sin.” (Exodus 32:30). Notice the tone that Moses has.
He said, “Perhaps I can make atonement.” He did not have confidence in his ability to make atonement. Yet when Jesus went to the Cross, He knew with certainty
He would be able to do it. 1 John 2:2 says, “He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.” For everyone who believes, Jesus is our atonement!
Sometimes it is a lack of knowledge that can keep us defeated. Because of the Cross, we have been set free from the bondage of sin. The gospel of grace is not filled with words like perhaps or maybe. Instead it explains what has been done with a definite ye! John 8:36 tells us, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (ESV). It’s time to walk in the freedom we have in Christ!
