"Capital-fundraising group now part of aquatics center campaign" by: Mike Reddell

The proposed indoor-outdoor aquatics center – incorporating pools for competition and water therapy, plus a feature-loaded outdoor facility – was discussed at City Council’s regular meeting Thursday, July 26.
Council Member Bill Cornman put the center’s progress on the agenda with a focus on a capital-fund raising group, whose members recently met with city officials, school, MRMC and city officials.
Cornman said he was impressed with the “public and private consortium with financing, engineering, construction and science components.”
The councilman credited Loy Sneary with bringing this team together - all at Sneary’s expense. Cornman called a “turn-key operation.”
Sneary and Renee Savage, co-chairmen of Wellness Matagorda County, unveiled the estimated $14-17 million courtyard facility last March after years of research and multiple trips to area aquatics centers with similar missions.
Wellness Matagorda’s previous projects are the Hike and Bike Trail behind Bay City High School and the Wellness and Rehabilitation Center inside MRMC’s FEMA Shelter Dome.
Wellness Matagorda is an 18-year non-profit that partners with Matagorda County, the City of Bay City, Matagorda Regional Medical Center, all five Matagorda County school districts and individuals and corporations to improve the physical health and wellbeing of county residents.
