Van Vleck’s Sam Bree (8) picks up yards against Poth last Friday..

Hallettsville – The Van Vleck Leopards scored on their opening drive and never looked back, cruising to a 35-2 Area playoff win over the Poth Pirates last Friday night.
With the win, Van Vleck moves to the Regional final and a familiar matchup against district foe and cross-county rival Tidehaven.
The game will be at Rosenberg’s Traylor Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Van Vleck won the opening toss, and elected to put their offense on the field first. This move set the tone quickly, as the Leopard run game came out red hot. Running backs De’Mitri Monroe and Daniel Bree led the charge, busting off long runs into Poth territory.
Leopard quarterback Cameron Hudson completed a 15-yard pass to Bree down to the 3-yard line, and Monroe took it in two plays later for the Van Vleck touchdown. Trent Blaylock booted the extra point, and the Leopards were out in front 7-0.
The Van Vleck defense forced a three-and-out on the first Poth series, giving the ball back to Van Vleck at their own 27-yard line.
Daniel Bree exploded out of the backfield for a 43-yard run to start the drive, putting Van Vleck at the Pirate 30-yard line. Six plays later, Monroe once again scored from two yards out to extend the Van Vleck lead to 13-0, with 4:27 left in the first quarter.
