"County OKs board to oversee who uses docks under bridge" by: Mike Reddell

A three-person Board of Managers was formed and appointments were approved by commissioners court Monday to oversee Matagorda County’s dock slots beneath the Matagorda span bridge across the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW).
Buddy Treybig, Kirk Vossler and Lee Knezek were unanimously approved as members of the Bridge Park Docks Board of Managers for three-year terms, from Dec. 3, 2018 to Dec. 3, 2021.
Matagorda County commercial fishermen and county officials have long wrestled with outside fishing operations taking up dock slots and setting up almost permanent stays in the bridge park area under the bridge, where the old swing bridge was.
More recently, the docks were mentioned in connection with their use by Galveston-area crews accused of plundering oyster beds in East Matagorda Bay.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Kent Pollard said the docks board was recommended by outside counsel to oversee operations, maintenance and to collect fees that would be turned over to the commissioner.
The dock slots were created primarily for local commercial fishermen and shrimpers, the commissioner pointed out.
Pollard said an initial meeting on the docks board was held in his office with 12 local commercial fishermen, “who nominated and voted on the three folks to serve.”
Precinct 3 Commissioner James Gibson said he had problems naming three people with commercial fishing interests to the three-person board.
