A crowd of Bay City High School students, community members plus local business and government leaders joined BCISD officials for the groundbreaking ceremony for the new BCHS Memorial Stadium Monday, Dec. 3.
The groundbreaking was at the south side of BCHS, where construction crews already are working on the new stadium site.
“I can without question confirm what many in this school district are thinking right now by saying these three and half words – it’s about time,” said BCISD School Board President Robert Klepec.
“It’s about time that we have a stadium facility that ranks up there with all the other school districts in the area,” he said.
Klepac added the benefits of having the stadium on the high school campus, “as now does our new baseball field.”
The board president listed stadium features such as an “state of the art press box” that will be on the home side, new field houses that will be used year-around, plus new concession stands, restrooms, comfortable seating and a “new high-caliber track and an artificial turf field.”
Artificial turf enables use in wet conditions, he added.
