Time expiring to register for Citizens Police Academy

Time is running out to register for the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Police Academy.
The free classes run from 6:30-8:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday, March 19-April 18 at the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office, 2308 Ave. F.
The goal of the academy is to enhance communication and understanding between the sheriff’s office and citizens.
In an overall approach to community policing, citizens will participate and learn about their sheriff’s office, its mission and goals and the men and women of the office who serve the community on a daily basis.
Each week, students will learn about different aspects of law enforcement to include laws of arrest, patrol techniques, domestic violence and crisis intervention, firearms safety, crime scene management, and traffic enforcement.
Once students graduate, the goal is to have a continued partnership.
Interested graduates are given the opportunity to continue as a volunteer and help assist the sheriff’s office with different county functions.
They will be part of a group called, “Matagorda County Citizens Law Enforcement Academy Alumni” (MCCLEAA).
More information about the goals and requirements of this group will be detailed during the academy classes.
   For more information, call 979-245-5526.
