MATAGORDA – The Matagorda Historical Society is making its own history on July 11, in Bay City, when they bring to Schulman’s Movie Theater, the Academy Award nominated movie, The Tree of Life.
What makes this historic is that the movie is the first major movie every filmed in Matagorda and also it will be the first time this movie has been shown in Matagorda County on the big screen!
The Historical Society wanted to spotlight this movie due to its historical significance by being filmed in Matagorda, but also features many Matagorda County residents in the movie, including the late Joe Faye Deshotels, who was a member of the Historical Society.
Her appearance is unique in this movie and you won’t want to miss it.
Familiar faces from Matagorda County can be seen in different parts of the movie also.
The Tree of Life was filmed in Matagorda and other Texas cities and features Brad Pitt, Sean Penn and Jessica Chastain, as well as many other famous actors and actresses.
The movie won the Palme d’Or at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for three Academy Awards in 2011. Overall, the Tree of Life has been nominated 118 times and won 112 awards world-wide.
The movie is of the story of a Waco family in the 1956. The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with parent’s conflicting teachings.
It is recommended for mature audiences, but is rated PG-13 for thematic material.
The Historical Society is making this their 2019 major fundraising event and is asking a $10 donation per person cost to attend this movie in its initial and only showing in Matagorda County.
Seats are limited and will be capped at the first 125 persons to get their tickets.
The movie will start at precisely 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at Schulman’s Movie Theater with no previews, so being early is recommended to see the entire movie.
Tickets for the $10 per person donation can be purchased only from Matagorda Historical Society members. You cannot purchase them from the theater.
You may contact the Historical Society by contacting Mattie at 979-863-2303.
If no answer, leave a message and you will get a return call.
