The Bay City Housing Authority staff greeted their new summer interns with open arms and excitement June 13. The teens are learning job-related skills from the ground up and are getting a behind-the-scenes look at the housing authority.

Bay City Housing Authority Director La Wanda Davis partnered with the WorkSource to have three local teens intern at the BCHA office starting last week.
Manuel De La Rosa, O’Queal Bell, and Tysha Enoch are getting hands-on training and work-related skills from the ground up.
The partnership features the interns working for up to 30 hours per week for five weeks and are paid by the WorkSource itself.
“We were approached by WorkSource and asked to join their program and provide job descriptions for positions that could be filled by teens,” said Davis.
“This program also coincides with one of our goals of being more involved with the youth in our community.
“We approached our board of directors as part of this project and they encouraged us to take part.”
Davis said that the teens came in without previous work experience and are learning time management and other entry-level work habits, basic clerical work and maintenance tasks.
