Following an executive session that included discussion of an interim city manager, City Council set the compensation for Mayor Robert Nelson Thursday, July 11.
There were three matters listed for executive session discussion, but the only action taken afterward was on an agenda item originally marked for open session and discussed in closed session – timelines for interim city manager hiring and the mayor’s compensation.
Council members Julie Estlinbaum and Bill Cornman had excused absences, leaving the council quorum of Jason Childers, Becca Sitz, Brent Marceaux and Nelson.
Councilman Jason Childers moved – and council unanimously approved - to allow Nelson continue with his $83,000 salary for three months after an interim city manager is hired and to receive the following compensation during his term of office:

  •     $600 monthly auto allowance (Retroactive)
  •     $600 monthly mayoral position compensation
  •     City cellular telephone
  •     Office space in City Hall
  •     Any technology required to perform his position
  •     Bay City Gas Company compensation as set out in the Bay City Gas Company’s Charter
  •     Employee benefit option

Interviews for the two interim city manager finalists are scheduled July 31.
