Matagorda County Sheriff Skipper Osborne pets K9 Hansel. The county has received $50,000 worth of K9 gear donations.

Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office new K9 Hansel is making an impact, said Sheriff Skipper Osborne.
The sheriff also recognized the Clute Police Department’s recent donation of a K9 kennel and heat alarm that was installed in a sheriff’s department Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Tahoe was donated by Reserve Deputy Ron Ballenger to the sheriff’s office.
Osborne noted that DLE (Dogs for Law Enforcement) donated K9 Hansel to the sheriff’s office.  Hansel is handled by Sgt. M. Tilley and together they were certified as a narcotics detection team on June 19.
Tilley and Hansel were called to assist Bay City Police Department in a search Aug. 21.
Hansel gave a positive alert to the vehicle being searched where methamphetamine and other narcotics were recovered and two felony arrests were made.
Hansel is already making an impact on removing street level narcotics from Matagorda County, Osborne said.
Over $50,000 worth of gear which includes a K9, a K9 vehicle, and a kennel with heat alarm have been donated to make this possible, said Lt. James Orr, with the sheriff’s office.
