"Injury-riddled Tidehaven welcomes Shiner Friday" by: Mike Reddell

The Tidehaven Tigers have their work cut out for them when they host the District 15-2A-1 Shiner Comanches (3-0) Friday night.
Tidehaven is coming off a 34-22 loss to cross-county rival Palacios and Head Coach David Lucio is trying to move people into positions because of injuries.
“We went into the Palacios game down five starters, and left down three more. We are trying to get healthy,” the head coach said.
“Shiner has a very good ball club, might be the best we see all year.
“It would be a tossup between them and Refugio,” Lucio said.
“They have some great running backs, about four of them that could start for most programs in the state at any level. Their defense is also very good,” Lucio added.
“In the meantime, we will be playing a number of young kids and reserves.
“I was very proud of how are kids battled last Friday,” the coach said.
“A lot of them were put in positions they had not played before due to the injuries.
“Despite the circumstances they were still able to make a game of it.
“This week will be no different. We will have to do patch work with our starters and do our best to make a game of it,” Lucio remarked.
“Long term this will be beneficial to us because of the experience the reserves are getting.
“Hopefully we do not suffer any more setbacks. If that plays out we should start to get a lot of our kids back over the next couple of weeks.”
Tidehaven (1-2) had 298 total yards against Palacios.
Senior quarterback Blake Garcia was 11-27-181 and three TDs.
Garcia’s top receiver was Mason Perales who had six catches for 160 yards.
On the ground, Tiger running back Jose Martinez had 16 carries for 80 yards, while Garcia rushed 12 times for 34 yards.
Defensively, the Tigers limited the Shark running game to 61 yards, while Palacios passed for 169 yards, with 1 TD and 2 interceptions.
Mason Perales and Grant Von Gon Tard each had an interception.
Logan Crow and Ben Ruiz each had a forced fumble and fumble recovery.
