"Main Street board members discuss future event planning" by: Jessica Shepard

The Main Street Program board failed to make a quorum of members, but still held updates for ongoing projects and shared information on future plans during a regularly scheduled meeting Sept. 11.
Future events include partnering with VFW Post 2438 and the American Legion for a veterans parade Saturday, Nov. 9, and City of Bay City Parks and Recreation Department in December.
“Main Street is partnering with the VFW and American Legion for their annual veterans parade Nov. 9,” said Main Street Program organization committee chair Elizabeth Hewitt.
“We’re also partnering with Parks and Rec for their ‘Hometown Christmas’ celebration set for Dec. 7.”
Hewitt also attends the Historic Downtown Business Association (HDBA) as a Main Street liaison and reported that the annual “Light It Up” fundraiser was canceled this month.
“The fundraiser has been canceled and HDBA will consolidate the fundraising for the downtown lights and Christmas decorations with Main Street,” she added.
Main Street Manager Shelly Story provided more information on the Parks and Recreation “Hometown Christmas” event as part of her report to the board.
“Parks and Rec wants to close 6th Street between Avenue G and F from 1-5 p.m. for safety reasons since they’re going to have the ice rink up on the courthouse steps this year,” she said.
“They’re also going to have other event festivities down on the lawn. We had business owners concerned about that and they were not happy about it at the HDBA meeting. So, I’m not sure what exactly is going to happen with that.”
