"New Sargent fire truck funded by state, precinct, local fundraising" by: Mike Reddell

A new Sargent fire truck – paid with state, county and local fundraising efforts – was approved, along with a firefighting contract with Matagorda, by Matagorda County Commissioners Court Monday, Nov. 4.
The new 4,000-gallon tanker that costs $297,650 for Sargent Area Volunteer Fire & Rescue will be funded by a $200,000 Texas A&M Forestry Service grant, $20,000 from Precinct 2 Commissioner Kent Pollard’s budget and $77,650 raised from a letter-writing campaign by local residents.
“They worked very diligently in securing the funds,” Pollard told commissioners about the local fund-raising campaign for the tanker.
Pollard also commended Sargent area leaders in raising funds for the renovation under way to convert the old VFW Hall into the Sargent Branch Library of the Bay City Library.
