Doug Schoppe candidate for Precinct. 1 Constable

Doug Schoppe

I am excited to announce my candidacy for Matagorda County Constable Precinct 1.
My name is Doug Schoppe and I bring to you 30+ years of experience in Texas Law Enforcement.
The duties of a Texas Constable are to execute and return all civil processes. Constables are Texas Peace Officers and may arrest, with or without warrants, violators of state penal and traffic laws.
Constables and their deputies are officers of the court. They provide fair and impartial notification to citizens of court actions that may involve them.
I started my law enforcement career in 1987, at the Austin County Sheriff’s Office in Texas.
My career then took me to Columbus Police Department and then to Weimer Police Department where I was a K-9 officer.
I am currently an active reserve deputy at the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office.
I have earned a Master Peace Officer Certification - the highest honor there is.
One of my goals as your constable is to bring community policing to the constable’s office.
Community policing focuses on building ties and working closely with members of the community.
Reducing crime requires the constable’s office works cooperatively with citizens in neighborhoods and communities to identify their concerns, solicit their help and prevent and solve crime.
To better serve you, I will seek qualified deputy constables with the highest education and standards to assist me in protecting the citizens of Precinct 1.
It is also my goal to work with our youth to keep them out of trouble and to lead them in the right direction.
Our future depends on the youth of our community and my deputies and I will work closely with them to lead and provide positive role models to help them succeed.
I am dedicated to and strongly support an individual’s rights to self-defense.
In 2013, my wife was employed at a financial institution. My wife and I were targeted by two career criminals and we were taken hostage at gunpoint.
The kidnappers forced us to take them to her workplace to withdraw money.
After the criminals got what they were after, they attempted to force us to drive to a secluded area.
Feeling a fear of a terminal assault to me and my wife, I was able to access my personal handgun and engage the armed thugs and successfully terminate the actions of the kidnappers.
Thanks to God and my law enforcement training I was able to remain calm during this dangerous situation and we survived.
As your constable, I will work tirelessly fulltime to keep you, your family and your property safe.
I have always found it important to not only protect the community but also to be an active participant in it.
I have been employed as both an armed security officer and a lieutenant security supervisor at the South Texas Project in Matagorda County for the past 12 years.
I am married to my wife of 25 years, Renee Schoppe, and we are members of the Saint Anthony Catholic Church.
I am a member of the following organizations:

  •     Sheriffs Association of Texas
  •     Texas Southwest Cattle Raisers Association
  •     Ducks Unlimited Matagorda County Chapter
  •     JPCA (Justices of the Peace and Constables Association)
