Karly Brown shows her grand champion steer “Salty” at the Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association's auction Saturday, March 7. Brown, with the Van Vleck Community 4-H, has shown the top show steer at the auction four different times.

Karly Brown took her now-accustomed place showing her grand champion steer at the Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Show auction Saturday, March 6.
This is, after all, the fourth straight year the Van Vleck Community 4-H member has shown either the grand champion or reserve grand champion at the show.
She has shown the top show animal in the 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2020 MCFLA auctions.
Karly’s sister Kenzie won the title in 2017 and Van Vleck’s Jenna Schultz showed the 2016 grand champion.
This year, Karly’s grand champion steer fetched a $10,000 purchase price at the auction - the same price buyers paid for her 2019 grand champion steer.
Shelby Sliva, with Tidehaven FFA, showed the reserve grand champion this year. Her steer sold for $8,500.
Saturday’s 186 lots sold for $473,250, for an average price of $2,544, compared to the 2019 auction total of $497,600 for 220 animals, for an average price of $2,261.
This year’s auction totals do not include add-ons, pledged donations that people and businesses make to help offset the cost of a livestock exhibitor’s project.
