"City Council sets citywide goals for 2021" by: Mike Reddell

City Council set its city-wide goals for 2021 at council’s regular meeting Tuesday night, June 23.
The goal-setting was through council’s approval of the city planning document Vision 2040 “Bay City Works.”
Council and city staff worked on Vision 2040 during recent budget workshops and Tuesday night council added public safety to the document’s five core elements.
Another major item for council was approving a resolution expressing intent to finance improvements to the city’s water and sewer systems.
City Manager Shawna Burkhart said financing the repair or replacement of the city’s drinking water system will be done through low-interest loans, with the financial assistance from the Texas Water Development Board.
The projected system-wide wastewater improvements, including the treatment plant and lift stations, will cost about $36,400,000.
Water system improvements, including work on the two water plants and upgrades throughout, are projected to be $20,330,000.
The loans will be repaid through water and sewer rates, Burkhart noted.
