Emma Jean Piwonka

Emma Jean Piwonka

April 24, 1933- June 27, 2020
Emma Jean (Junek) Piwonka, 87, of Blessing, passed away June 27, 2020.
This date holds a special significance because it was on the same day thirty-five years ago that her beloved husband, “Red” passed away.
She was born April 24, 1933, in El Maton, Texas, the youngest child of the late Ludwig and Clara Popek Junek.
In 1950 she graduated from Wharton County Junior College as an LVN.
On July 21, 1951, she married Clarence “Red” Piwonka, Sr. and together they raised ten children.
Emma spent her married years helping Red manage their grocery store and farming operations in Blessing, all while taking care of a house full of children.
When Red passed away in 1985, she was able to keep the farm going while stepping into the role of loving grandmother.
She was always ready to whip up a meal or welcome another addition to her big family.
Emma was a life-long active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing, where she was a member of the Altar Society and volunteered much of her time.
She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
At home, Emma enjoyed growing beautiful flowers, gardening and making those delicious Kolaches with her late sister-in-law Evelyn Junek.
Emma’s life was centered around and devoted to her large family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Red” Piwonka and her eldest child, Gary Piwonka.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin Junek, Joe Junek and L. J. Junek, and her sisters, Lydia Zemanek, Verna Turek and Mary Jane Lezak.
Emma will be lovingly remembered by her children, Darrell (Jean) Piwonka of Boling, TX, Janie (Alvin) Bannert of Sweeny, TX, Jim Piwonka of Blessing, TX, Paul (Vicki) Piwonka of Round Rock, TX, Clarence (Lorene) Piwonka, Jr. of Blessing, TX, Susie Sparks of Angleton, TX, Greg Piwonka of Blessing, TX, Ronnie (Jan) Piwonka of Midfield, TX and Lisa (Randy) Volkmer of Bay City, TX.
She will be forever remembered by her 33 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Emma is also survived by her sister, Clara Gordon of Burnet, TX, sister-in-law Barbara Junek of El Campo, TX, and brother-in-law Edward Lezak of Clemville, TX.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Jimmy Piwonka for granting her wish to spend her final days in Blessing, TX, in his home and to Greg Piwonka for being by her side through it all.
We also want to thank Candice Steffeck for providing loving care by stopping by and checking on her every day.
