"Tourism Council looks at Covid-19 impact on events" by: Jessica Shepard

Bay City Tourism council approved sponsoring up to $3,000 for the Matagorda County Birding Nature Center’s annual Full Moon Food Truck Festival during their bi-monthly meeting, July 22.
This was the council’s first meeting since March.
The event is scheduled to start at noon, Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Matagorda County Birding Nature Center and features live music, food and a variety of family-friendly activities.
The festival was originally slated for June 20 but was rescheduled once due to COVID-19 and again due to the inability to acquire a beer license.
“We tried to have it this month but couldn’t get a beer license,” said board member Sue Crow.
“We’re hoping with it being in October, the weather will be cooler and we’ll be able to have more people come out. Even with social distancing, we’re extremely hopeful.”
Sponsoring the festival brought up concerns related to COVID-19 and how the council would pay out sponsorships if an event was cancelled.
“That’s something we’re going to have to really look at,” said Tourism Director Heidi Martinez.
