"Council OKs fiscal 2021 tax rate, $27.8M budget" by: Mike Reddell

   City Council approved a fiscal 2021 budget of $27,884,000 during council’s regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 8.
   The product of workshop sessions throughout the summer, the budget is lower than the fiscal 2020 budget of $28,090,950.
   The tax rate supporting the new fiscal year document will be .65500 per $100 valuation.
   That’s the same rate that was applied in fiscal 2020.
   This fiscal 2021 levy will raise more revenue from property taxes than last year by $82,292, a 1.45% increase from last year’s document.
   This year’s maintenance and operation rate of the budget will be .48212, down from .50176, while the fiscal 2021 debt service rate is .17288, and that’s up from .15324 in 2020.
   The debt service rate covers the city’s seven outstanding debt issues.
