"Council agrees to sit down, discuss aquatics center costs" by: Mike Reddell

City Council agreed to sit down about the proposed Matagorda County Aquatics Center with other partners to discuss how financing and operating costs will be shared at council’s regular meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The agreement to further discuss the $19 million “all purpose” project that’s part natatorium and part water park followed last week’s council workshop to determine council support.
That meeting revealed council and staff approached concerns over how the city would assume total responsibility for the center.
Tuesday night, Councilman Bill Cornman discussed with council a feasibility study provided by Ballard-King & Associates – a planning consultant for the aquatics center.
Ballard-King stressed the project is viable, but will need to be operated efficiently.
While the city has been the lead agency for the project, its other partners include Wellness Matagorda County, Matagorda County, Bay City ISD, and Matagorda County Hospital District.
This is the group that council agreed to sit down with and discuss costs and shared responsibility.
