BCPD promotes 2 to corporal at City Hall ceremony

   Two Bay City Police Department officers were promoted to corporal in a ceremony at Bay City Council Chambers Tuesday, Nov. 10.
   Wth Police Chief Robert Lister officiating, several members of the police department as well as family and friends were present to congratulate the two officers. 
   Detective Robert Pierce and Officer Ruben Gutierrez were promoted to corporal.
    Pierce was promoted to detective corporal. 
   Pierce attended Midland Senior High School and graduated in 1987. 
   He then attended Midland College and Tarrant County College while taking Criminal Justice courses. 
   Pierce then went on to graduate from Tarrant County College Police Academy in 2005.
   Pierce began his law enforcement career in March 2006 with the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Officer as a jailer/deputy. 
   He then worked for Bay City ISD Police as a patrol officer until 2008. 
   Pierce then returned to Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office and worked from 2009 to 2013, when he began at Bay City Police Department. 
   At BCPD, he has served as a patrol officer, patrol corporal, a member of the Special Response Team and most recently as a detective. Pierce is married to Sheri Pierce and has six children and two grandchildren.
   Gutierrez was promoted to patrol corporal.  He attended Elkins High School and graduated in 2007. He then attended Houston Community College where he played football and basketball for two years, making it to the state finals. 
   Gutierrez then attended Wharton County Junior College Police Academy and graduated in 2018. 
   Gutierrez is in the process of becoming a member of the Special Response Team and is also in the process of becoming a Field Training Officer. 
   Gutierrez hopes to become a certified Mental Health Officer. He and his wife, Karla Gutierrez, have been married for three years now.
