"5 deputies OK’d for Precinct 2 Constable" by: Jessica Shepard

Commissioners Court approved five new deputy constables for Precinct 2, with a three-to-one split vote, Monday, Dec. 7.
“People in Matagorda have been asking me for help since I got into this position,” said County Judge Nate McDonald.
“I think this is a good idea for those folks and think it’ll do a lot of good.”
McDonald joined commissioners Gary Graham and James Gibson in approval for the deputies with Precinct 2 Commissioner Kent Pollard voting no.
Precinct 4 Commissioner Bubba Frick was absent from the meeting.
“Two of these constables are already on payroll with the county,” said Precinct 2 Constable Keith Sullivan.
“I’m just looking to add three newcomers to give me a pool of five deputies to choose from. It’ll help with scheduling these officers in rotation since these are part-time positions.”
Jason Ball and Earl Mitchell are moving from Precinct 6 Constable’s office to Sullivan’s precinct and Jessie Rodriguez, Tom Donaldson, and Evan Bissett would be the new Precinct 2 constable additions.
Sullivan added that the deputies all have law enforcement knowledge and all but one have Master Peace Officer Proficiency Certificates.
Pollard told the court that he wished to hold a workshop meeting about concerns for his budget handling the new deputies.
“The deputies would come on under the marine department and that’s in my budget,” he explained.
