MCFLA cookoff on tap this weekend

The Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association continues its events with the annual barbecue cook-off this weekend starting with early cook team arrivals from 4-9 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds.
   Cookers are also slated for arrival Friday during the day.
   Friday night Bag of Donuts takes the stage in the main arena from 8:30-10:30 p.m.
   Advance tickets to Friday’s concert are $20 per person and $25 the day of the event.
   The cook-off lasts until noon Saturday, May 1.
   Los Amigos-ASG takes the stage Saturday night from 8-11 p.m. in the main arena.
   Advance tickets for Saturday’s live entertainment are $15 per person and $20 the day of the event.
   All concert tickets are available at Bay City Feed Store, Wild Bills Western Wear, and the fair office.
   Students of all ages will show off their skills at the annual talent show and public speaking event starting at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 2 at the Van Vleck High School Auditorium.
   The rodeo takes full swing May 6-8 with Pete Carr’s Classic PRC Rodeo starting around 6:30 p.m. each night.
   Rodeo performances include mutton busting, bullfighting, calf scramble, junior steer saddling, 6x NFR Barrelman & 3x Coors Man in the Can.
   Attendees can expect a variety of vendors at the fairgrounds inside and outside the arena along with a petting zoo.
   The carnival is scheduled to be open from 4-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday with noon to midnight hours on Saturday.
