Over 50 entries were featured at the annual “Rice Dish Round-Up,” Aug. 31.
Entries are broken into one of four age divisions for grades 1-5, grades 6-8, grades 9-12, and adults.
There are five food categories that can be entered: main dish, side dish, snack or appetizer, bread, and dessert.
“Each dish in the contest must have at least ½ cup cooked rice, 2 cups rice cereal products, 1 cup rice flour, or ½ cup cooked rice pasta,” said Matagorda County Extension Agent for family and community health Gabrielle Kanu.
“We want to generate more interest in this event and make it bigger every year,” said Bay City Lions Club Rice Dish chairman Wayne Witte.
“We’re grateful for all of your participation this year and hope to see this even grow more next year. This is one of the largest events that helps kick off our annual Rice Festival fundraiser, too.”
