"Use the Sabbath for resting your mind and doing better in your life" by: Caleb Gibson

Labor Day was this past Monday. I think it is a great time to study the topic of the Sabbath.
What is the Sabbath Day according to the Bible?
The Sabbath was the “seventh day of the week,” the Israelites were to take time to rest from any work to remember their Lord.
This was a holy day to the Lord. In the Jewish calendar, Saturday was the seventh day of the week.
This day really began on Friday night at sunset and ended on Saturday Night at sunset.
They began their day with rest.
In the same way when man was created, his first day was day number seven where God rested on the final day of Creation.
In Colossians 2:16-17, the apostle Paul declares, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
“These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
Some Christians worship and have their church on Saturday.
They are blessed and free to do that.
One reason that I believe Sabbath Day is no longer for today is because it is not repeated in the new covenant.
So, what laws under the old covenant are still for us today?
My professor at the college of biblical studies explained it well, saying that whatever is repeated in the new covenant is also for us.
The laws that are repeated in the new covenant are to be continued.
There is no command to worship God on Saturday in the New Testament.
Sunday works perfect because that is the day that Jesus rose from the dead.
The main guideline to follow is the call to not forsake the assembling together of the brethren.
   Let’s continue to meet together.
Let’s worship the Lord, read the word, and pray I believe that those three things are vital to our church.
There is a practical principal to have a single day of rest throughout the week.
Just as the body needs around eight hours of consistent sleep, it is good to rest for one day a week.
   This can be very practical.
This which means that we should physically have one day out of seven to rest our body and not have any strenuous work.
The Sabbath was a good law that God gave to the Israelites because it was a reminder that God had freed them from slavery.
You cannot have a day of rest as a slave.
Today we are under the new covenant and no longer keep the Sabbath Day or any other holy day like they did under the old covenant.
Hebrews 4:9 tells us, “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God.”
Our true Sabbath is Jesus. He is our rest today.
Because of His finished work on the cross, we can have a perfect Sabbath rest from works today.
Take time this week to go to church.
Rest your body, rest your mind and give thanks to God for all that He has done.
Refocus your mind and think about how you can do better in your life.
Yes, it’s important to focus on the small details, but it is also good to take a step back and ask the Lord for guidance.
Jesus is our lord of the Sabbath.
He is our Lord of rest.
