Wildlife rescue presents 18th annual basics training workshop

 Have you ever found an injured bird in your yard and wanted to know how to help it?
   The Friends of Gulf Coast Wildlife Rescue are presenting their 18th Annual Wildlife Rescue Basics Training Workshop Saturday, Feb 21.
   The workshop is free and will last from 8 a.m. until noon and is at The Gulf Coast Observatory Avian Science Center at 103 east highway 332 in Lake Jackson.
   Attendees can look forward to learning what to do when they find an injured or abandoned animal, an overview of wildlife rehabilitation and ho to coexist peacefully with wildlife.
   “We will also be teaching basic first aid, safety and handling techniques for reptiles, mammals and birds,” said the press release.
   There will also be live animals at the workshop.
   Those that attend the workshop will also learn about birds of prey and the laws protecting them as well as other state and federal wildlife laws.

Sparklin' Boutique now features Bartlett Pair art

   Bay City’s Sparklin’ Boutique now features art from The Bartlett Pair of Van Vleck.
   Prints of various sizes as well as some framed art are on display at the store.
   “They do beautiful work,” said Sparklin’ Boutique employee, Amy lezhak.
   “Everything looks so lifelike and the colors are intense.”
   The Bartlett Pair are a husband and wife artist duo that cover a variety of mediums, from painting to repurposed costume jewelry and everything in between.
   Jimmie and Carolyn Bartlett started their business in 1993 and run every facet of it themselves.

B&G Club Girls Scout troop sells 2K cookie boxes

Girl Scout Troop 156006 of The Boys and Girls Club of Bay City and Matagorda County sold 2,000 boxes of
cookies during their presale period. “Out of my 90 girls, one-third brought back their cookie sale forms,” said Troop Leader Cassandra Austin.

Artist finds celestial business name intrigues her customers

Seditious Seraphim Midfield native, Taylor Stephens showcased her jewelry at the artists’ gallery showing at the Town Square Restaurant last Thursday. She had her tools on hand for anyone who wanted to work on a custom design or make adjustments to a piece they wanted to purchase. Stephens is a member of The Art League of Bay City and Matagorda County.

Van Vleck’s bus driver of the year

Daisy Gammage was recognized as VVISD's PCAT Bus Driver of the Year by the Van Vleck ISD school board Monday night. The award was presented by Joe Ros Director of Maintenance and Transportation.
