Joe Faye Deshotels

   Joe Faye Deshotels passed away in Bay City, Texas, on July 20, 2015, at the age of 95.
   She was preceded in death by: her parents, George and Amanda Yeamans Raymond; her brothers, Jack and Thomas Raymond; sister, Alyne Cox; her husband, J.D. Deshotels; her son, Doug Deshotels; and her son-in-law, George Eicke.
   Joe Faye was born January 19, 1920, in Matagorda, Texas, a sixth-generation Texan. 
   She grew up in Matagorda, Old Gulf and New Gulf. 
   She graduated from Boling High School and attended Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College.
   She married J.D. Deshotels in 1939, and moved often with her family, with his 40-year career with Humble Oil Company/Exxon. 
   When J.D. retired, they moved back to Matagorda.

Catarina Ramirez Shepard, 83, of Bay City, passed away July 3, 2015.   
   She was born January 20, 1932, in Cedar Creek, Texas, to the late Candelario Alba Ramirez and Gertrules Luna Lerma Ramirez.   
   She was a member of both Our Lady of Guadalupe and Holy Cross Catholic churches and a life member of VFW Post 2438 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. 
   She was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas Addison Shepard; and her siblings, Felipe Lerma Ramirez, Pablo Ramirez, Carmel Ramirez Torrez, Lenor Ramirez Trevino, Margarita Ramirez Aleman, Antonioa Ramirez Eguia and Candelario Ramirez.   
   Survivors include: sons, David Addison Shepard and wife Anne, Thomas Wayne Shepard and wife Patricia and James Allen Shepard; sister, Cruz Ramirez Leal; and five grandchildren, Jessica Shepard, Ashlee Shepard, David Shepard, Jr., Bailey Huse, Thomas Shepard and ex-daughter-in-law MaLinda Reddell.

Margaret ‘Peggy’ Nielsen Schmitt December 8, 1948 - July 1, 2015

   Margaret “Peggy” Nielsen Schmitt, 66, of Bay City, was born December 8, 1948, in Seattle, Washington, and was adopted by Lester and Ragnhild Nielsen.  
   Several years after Lester’s death, her mother remarried and moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa.  
   Peggy graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1967.  
   She attended business school in Des Moines, Iowa.  
   There she met future husband Jerry Schmitt. They were married on November 8, 1968.  
   Following a job opportunity, Jerry and Peggy moved to Galveston, Texas, in August of 1969, along with newborn son Nicholas.  
   Their second son, Russell, was born March 2, 1972.  
   The family moved to and settled in Bay City, Texas, in March of 1972.  
   Peggy’s hobbies included bowling, caring for her pets and animals, also feeding birds and squirrels in the back yard.

Alpha Lucille Calk, 83, passed away June 29, 2015, in Bay City, Texas.  
   She was born on April 15, 1932, to Harvey M. Green and Edna Andalee Ellis Green in Stowell, Texas. 
   Lucy was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Wade Thomas Calk, Sr.; brothers, Albert Rosenbusch, Carl Rosenbusch, Ernest Ellis, Pete Green and Bubba Green; and sister, Pat Commilleau. 
   She is survived by: sons, Tranis and Judy Calk of Van Vleck, Texas, Clayton and Suzanne Calk of Baytown, Texas, and Wade and Pam Calk Jr. of Boling, Texas; daughter, Nancy and Al DuCote of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; and son, Bobby and Donna Calk of Van Vleck, Texas. 
   She has numerous nieces and nephews, whom she was very proud of, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. She loved them all dearly. 
   She was extremely proud to belong to the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Bay City, Texas.

   Champ McMullen, Jr., age 86, passed away May 12, 2015, at his home with his family at his side. 
   Champ was born May 8, 1929, inAransas Pass to Champ and Lucille McMullen. 
   Champ grew up in Aransas Pass until he joined the U.S. Army, on his return he went to work for Whitley Trucks where he worked for 25 years. 
   He married Betty Sizemore and they resided in Robstown, Texas, until 1977, moving to Van Vleck, Texas, and working for Brown and Root. Champ worked there up till his retirement in 2000. 
   Champ and Betty moved back to Robstown the last year and a half ago and lived with his daughter. 
   He enjoyed working in his shop making wood crafts, Christmas yard decorations and other crafts projects. Champ was also known to many as Mac or CC.

   Hunter Samuel Robert Janek, 15, of Matagorda, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015. 
   He was born on May 10, 1999, in Lake Jackson, Texas, to Charles and Lorin Haefs Janek. Hunter was raised in Needville, Texas and attended Needville Elementary, Middle School, Junior High and High School before moving to Matagorda. 
   He was a freshman at Van Vleck High School where he was an Ag student and a member of FFA.
   Hunter had been a member of the Matagorda community for the past two years where he never met a stranger. 
   He was loved by his family and many friends. 
   Hunter loved hunting with his Papa Bob and Papa Kutty and his father Charlie. 
   He scored his first deer with Papa Bob at Jones Creek when he was only six years old. 
   He loved fishing and working on his truck with his Papa Mark.

   Alyne Raymond Cox passed away in Bay City on April 25 at the age of 99.  
   She was preceded in death by: her parents, George and Amanda Yeamans Raymond; her brothers, Jack and Thomas Raymond; and her husband, Deward Cox.
   Alyne was born on March 7, 1916, in Matagorda, Texas.   
   She grew up in Matagorda, Old Gulf and New Gulf.  
   She graduated from Boling High School.  
   She raised her family in Bay City and, after the death of her husband, she moved her house to Matagorda.    
   She was a world traveler, artist and member of many local organizations.
   She is survived by: her daughter, Judy of Pearland; and son, Raymond (Julie) of Matagorda.
