Sea Grant intern returns to A&M from summer of experiences

    Matagorda County became the ultimate outdoor classroom this summer for Trinity Jones, a Sea Grant CEI (Community Engaged Internship) intern, who spent the season diving into the county’s thriving aquaculture industry and environmental education programs.

   Technically, the last day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere is Monday, Sept. 22.  But with various countywide school districts starting up this week and next, I feel like that counts as the end of summer in my book.

   Last week ended with a thud as the jobs report did nothing to improve the mood on Wall Street after the Fed declined to reduce interest rates on Wednesday.  Maybe the markets are just deciding it is time to go on holiday like those in Europe.

   While my sense of comedy isn’t in line with the masses, I do enjoy a wide range of jokes, pranks and scripted bits.  So, naturally, when I got a chance to see the newest The Naked Gun flick, I was all in to see how ridiculous the storyline and gags could be.

   I’m told on a movie set there is chaos coming in all directions until one word  is uttered, “Action!”  All work and preparation comes down to a three-minute take, and if successful, production is primed and ready to move on to the next scene.  Each of us is starring in a movie called life.

   A crucial part of my job is editing.  I’m the editor, a role in newspapers I’ve held for more than 40 years.  My early years in the business were devoted to reporting and photography.  Later, as my duties expanded, I added newspaper layout and editing to my skillset.

   For starters, trypanophobia is the fear of needles – in case you were wondering.  Apparently, there are specific fears related to each type of needle!  I can add myself to the group that’s experienced tattoo needles and doesn’t fear them.
