October
As the days grow shorter and we begin looking forward to the holiday season, October is a wonderful time to think about what makes our homes feel comfortable and inviting.
Creating a welcoming home doesn’t necessarily mean buying new furniture, redecorating or spending a lot of money.
Often, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
Start by looking at the spaces where you spend the most time.
Does your living room encourage conversation, or is the furniture arranged around the television?
Sometimes simply rearranging a few pieces can make a room feel entirely different.
Consider moving a chair closer to a window, adding a reading lamp or bringing a favorite piece of artwork into a room where you can enjoy it every day.
Lighting is another important element that is often overlooked.
Harsh overhead lighting can make a room feel cold and uninviting.
Table lamps, floor lamps and warm light bulbs can create a softer, more comfortable atmosphere without a major investment.
Don’t underestimate the power of texture.
A favorite throw, a few pillows or even a beautiful basket can add warmth and personality to a space.
And remember, not everything needs to match!
Consider mixing wood, metal, glass and ceramic pieces together to bring all the elements of nature in.
A home should reflect the people who live there, not look like a furniture showroom.
As we prepare to welcome family and friends during the coming months, remember that comfort isn’t about perfection.
It’s about creating a home where people feel relaxed, welcomed and happy to spend time.
Sometimes the simplest changes make a house feel more like home.
