Celebration A Big SuccessSix to Eight Thousand People Attend the Giant Celebration at Palacios July Fourth.  Probably the largest and most successful 4th of July celebration ever held in this section of the Gulf Coast, was celebrated when Palacios honored her Matagorda County heroes.

Porter family provides gallery of Bay City photographs

Vance Coralton Porter was born near Hillsboro, Laurence County, Alabama, on October 13, 1888.   He was the eldest son of Robert Lee Porter, Sr., and Rose Ella Le May Porter.   His early education was provided by tutors who lived in the homes of the several families whose children were taught.

Horton career included cavalryman, legislator, Baylor president

Albert Clinton Horton was born September 4, 1798 in Hancock County, Georgia, son of William and Mary Thomas Horton.   His father died when he was very young and later his mother married Colonel Samuel Dent, moving to LaGrange, Franklin County, Alabama in 1823.

Matagorda doctor served in Texas Revolution battles

Dr. Albert Moses Levy was born in Amsterdam, Holland, in 1800, the son of Abraham Levy and Cornelia Bernard.   The family came to the United States from England in 1818 and settled near Richmond, Virginia. His brothers and sisters were: Isaac, Jacob, Lewis, Esther, Mary, Julia and Rebecca.
