   Over 100 Matagorda County residents attended the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) “Bay City Relief Route Feasibility Study” last Thursday.  The public meeting was held in person on Feb. 19 and will be available virtually until Friday, March 6.
Matagorda County Retired Teachers Association (MCRTA) members clean gently used books and organize them along with the new books to be given to children in Matagorda County. Membership dues and donations pay for the cost of the books. The books are distributed to MRMC for newborns, to doctor’s offices, and at children’s events. The goal is to get a book in the hands of every child in Matagorda County. Barbara Gordon and Barbara Evanicky lead the Book Project. Contributed photo

   Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association (MCFLA) has its annual barbecue cook-off event starting with check in this Thursday, Feb. 19.  Thursday check in times are from 3-6 p.m. and 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb.

   Early voting for the 2026 Primary Election got underway Tuesday, Feb. 17.  Another upcoming election date is Friday, Feb. 20 - last day counties can receive mail-in requests.  The Primary Election will be Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

   Over 100 people attended Matagorda Regional Medical Center’s (MRMC) “Be Heart Smart Luncheon” featuring guest speaker Dr. George Hanna last week.  “Dr. Hanna has been a part of MRMC and our community since 2000,” said MRMC Foundation Executive Director Tiffany Foltyn as she introduced Hanna.
