Community Actors of South Texas (CAST) is holding One-Act Play (OAP) auditions this weekend.Auditions for “Fighting Demons” and “Henchmen, 1603 London” are slated for 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, and 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at the CAST theatre, 920 Nichols Ave in Bay City.

   Matagorda County Youth Charities’ (MCYC) “Taste & Tunes” event returns Saturday, Jan. 17.  The MCYC board hopes that January’s weather forecast is more bearable than last year’s inaugural event.

   Commissioners Court approved a five-year service agreement with Vibrance Health and the Matagorda County Neighborhood Nuisance Abatement procedures at the court’s meeting Monday, Dec. 22.  County Judge Bobby Seiferman and Precinct 3 Commissioner Troy Shimek were absent.

   There were other action items at the Port of Bay City Authority meeting Dec. 16, in addition to the major federal contract for dredging the mouth of the Colorado.  On Dec. 16, Port of Bay City Authority Chairman George Harrison said.

   Several county volunteer fire departments (VFD) were announced as $25,000 funding recipients through the Texas A&M Forest Service’s “Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program” in early December.

LCRA explains withdrawal from Arbuckle for Matagorda Bay

   The state-approved Water Management Plan requires LCRA to release water under certain circumstances to help maintain environmental flows in the Colorado River below Austin and into Matagorda Bay.  The requirements change based on the overall basin conditions on March 1, July 1 and Nov. 1.
