Bay City Blackcats started their season with an astounding 68-0 shutout over the Sweeny Bulldogs there Friday night, Aug. 26.    “Yes, it’s nothing like starting the season with a shutout,” Blackcat Head Coach Robert Jones replied to a Sentinel question about the first-game score.

The Van Vleck Leopards didn’t get a second scrimmage last week due to inclement weather and it showed as the Ganado Indians jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never looked back with a 39-14 win.     The Indians took the opening kickoff in good field position and converted their first drive into points.

Goliad Tigers overcome Tidehaven Tigers in a 34-27 contest

Tidehaven fell to Goliad 34-27 despite nearly 250 yards rushing from Tiger Joseph Dodds in a Friday, Aug. 26, game that was moved from Goliad to Tidehaven.    “We played a good Goliad team that will probably win some playoff games in 3A Division 1 this year,” said Tidehaven Head Coach David Lucio.

Tidehaven JV falls to Goliad 32-12

The JV Tigers opened up the season with a 32-12 loss to Goliad.      Scoring for the Tigers were WR Chad Faas with a 6 yard TD reception from QB Camden Johnson and RB Eli Daily scored on a 3 yd td run.

Bay City vs. Victoria East     “I think the scrimmage went well,” Blackcat Head Coach Robert Jones said about his squads’ second scrimmage against Victoria East last week.      “We did a lot of good things, but it’s a lot of things to correct before Friday night against Sweeny.”
