Hester retires after 30 years in law enforcement

   Philip Hester said he hopes he left Matagorda County a better place than when he started.  “On December 31, 2024, I officially retired from Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office after 30 years in law enforcement and I been involved in every aspect of the Job,” Hester said in a recent Facebook post.

City’s Polar Plunge slated for Saturday

   The 8th Annual Polar Plunge at Hilliard Pool will start the new year this Saturday.  This year’s event will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4.    Fees are $10 for adults and $5 for children 17 and under.

   Bay City’s Tourism Advisory Council unanimously approved up to $3,000 for the annual “Matagorda Bay Birdfest” event sponsorship application at their recent meeting.  The application was approved in advance of the “9th Annual Matagorda Bay Birdfest” slated for Friday-Sunday, March 7-9, in 2025.
