Fire destroys vacant house

   Fire destroyed a vacant house at  155 Janice at about 5:25 p.m. Sunday, June 23.  The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office, the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, and the Fire Marshal responded and the fire department identified heavy fire involvement.

Matagorda County fire calls

Bay City VFD:  On June 5, at 7:45 a.m., responded to assist Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department but was cancelled in route.   On June 5, at 1:49 p.m., responded to a wash down at the 2900 block of FM 2540.   On June 7, at 12:49 p.m., responded to a grass fire on Hwy 60 North.

   Over two dozen people attended the annual “Matagorda County Row Crop Tour” last week.   Along with hearing from several guest speakers, attendees got a chance to hear about variety trials with corn, cotton, and sorghum crops on Thursday, June 13.

   County Judge Bobby Seiferman’s “State of the County” drew about 145 people to the Bay City Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week.   Seiferman announced his re-election plans, reviewed promises made and promises kept and zeroed in on goals for the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

   City Council heard a presentation for a public safety headquarters from FGM Architects at council’s regular meeting June 11.   Police Chief Christella Rodriguez introduced the proposed design team for the headquarters that will use the “old, old” K-Mart building.
