Man sent to hospital after cooking fire

   Fire did an estimated $250,000 in damage to a Hiram Brandon street residence March 25. Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, the Bay City Police Department, and the Bay City Fire Marshal were sent to the house fire at 4703 Hiram Brandon at about 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 25.

   Bay City ISD Education Foundation President Elizabeth Hewitt is estimating that the 14th Annual Great Steak Cook-Off is set to raise more than last year’s event.

Easter closings include schools

   With the Easter Bunny en route to Matagorda County, several entities are closing early in preparation for the holiday.   In observance of Good Friday, March 29, the Matagorda County Courthouse and city business offices will be closed.
