Classic Movie Night Brings Hollywood Glamour and Palacios History to the Big Screen
The Palacios Preservation Association (PPA) invites the community to “Classic Movie Night” featuring the 1941 Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth musical “You’ll Never Get Rich.”
Filled with music, dancing, comedy, and silver-screen charm, the film offers a lighthearted look into the early 1940s.
“At the same time, Palacios was experiencing an extraordinary transformation of its own as Camp Hulen brought thousands of service members, new businesses, and lasting changes to the community,” said PPA Coordinator Courtney Yarborough in a press release.
“Guests are invited to come for the movie and stay for the story. Along with enjoying Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth on the big screen, attendees will discover more about the people, places, businesses, and experiences that shaped Palacios during this remarkable period.
“Step back into the glamour of classic Hollywood and discover the remarkable local history unfolding in Palacios during the same era,” she added.
The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Palacios Recreation Center, 2401 Perryman Ave.
Classic Movie Night is billed as “a chance to celebrate local history, share the stories about Palacios, and enjoy a memorable evening of food, entertainment, and community.”
The event is also a fundraiser supporting PPA’s continuing work to preserve and share Palacios history through historic preservation, oral histories, photographs and archival materials, educational programs, heritage experiences, and community engagement.
“PPA believes preserving the past can help create a stronger future. Heritage tourism can bring visitors to Palacios, support local businesses, create opportunities, and strengthen the community’s economic vitality,” said Yarborough.
“Four sponsors have already stepped forward to support Classic Movie Night, and PPA invites additional businesses, organizations, and individuals to join them. Event sponsors are helping do more than host a wonderful evening - they are helping tell the story of Palacios and invest in its future.”
Sponsorship opportunities are available at several levels and anyone interested in becoming a sponsor is encouraged to contact PPA.
