"City moves pool funding back a year" by: Mike Reddell

   City Council discussed the proposed aquatics center during council’s budget workshop Aug. 6, and decided to hold off funding in fiscal 2025 and instead look at the center in subsequent years to determine the level of commitments the center has.

2 agencies probe Cedar Lane death

   Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man near Cedar Lane, the Sheriff’s Office reported.  Deputies were sent to Private Road 517, located off of FM 457 a few miles north of Cedar Lane, in reference to a deceased man at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4.

Motorcyclist dies in wreck with pickup

   A motorcyclist was killed in an accident with a pickup truck near Avenue F Golden shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, Bay City police said.  Officers were sent to the area on Avenue F and Golden in reference to a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle.

Matagorda County fire calls

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:  On August 4, at 7:58 p.m., responded to assist Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office with lights on PR 517.  On July 24, at 7:18 a.m., responded to a transformer on fire at the 12000 block of FM 521.  On July 26, at 3:34 p.m.

"Tourism board OKs sponsoring volleyball tourney" by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City tourism board members unanimously approved sponsoring up to $3,000 for the “3rd Annual Tournament on the Bay” event during their meeting Monday afternoon.  Members present included Celeste Cash, Whitney Milberger, Amanda Garcia, DC Dunham and Jessica Shepard.

   County Judge Bobby Seiferman told Commissioners Court Monday that he expects the Texas Legislature will make a significant effort in January to address the “entire Beryl incident.

"LEPC hears updates on debris pickup" by: Mike Reddell

   Emergency Management Coordinator Amanda Campos reported on the Hurricane Beryl debris collection status at the Quarterly Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) meeting July 31.  Campos noted that all but about 50 Matagorda County residences have power restored due to losses.
