Fire calls from Matagorda County volunteer departments

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:   On May 1, at 8:38 p.m., responded to a business structure fire at the 2800 block of 7th Street.   On May 5, at 11:29 p.m., responded to a house fire at the 1100 block of CR 136.   On May 13, at 3:05 a.m., responded to a motor vehicle accident on PR 520.

   Haley Richards will transfer her experience in Wyoming to Matagorda County where she recently became an Assistant District Attorney.      Richards will have a hefty caseload as she joins District Attorney Steven Reis’ staff that’s been short the position she’s filling for about two years.

   Bay City High School graduated 216 students during its commencement ceremony at Memorial Stadium May 24.      Sierra Fernandez and Isabelle Villalovos provided words of welcome and introduction of guests; respectively.

Tenaris awards $198K in scholarships to 15 students

   Tenaris awarded 15 Matagorda County High School seniors with scholarships totaling $196,000 at an awards ceremony May 22.
