Agents review crop damages in 2 counties

   Matagorda County farmers sustained significant losses from Hurricane Beryl, Agriculture Extension Agent Greg Baker recently filed with Texas A&M Extension administration.  Matagorda County received high winds and rain.    “Rainfall totals after the storm were 8-10 inches.

K-9 helps find missing man’s body

   The body of a man reported missing July 17 was found by a Game Warden K-9 dog on an island across the Colorado River from Snappers July 20.  Sheriff’s Lt. Philip Hester was notified of a missing person report being made at the Sheriff’s Office Wednesday, July 17.

July fire calls

   Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:  On July 21, at 12:12 a.m., responded to a motor vehicle fire at the 900 block of Avenue D in Van Vleck.  On July 22, at 02:47 a.m., responded to smoke in a building at the 3000 block of Golden.  On July 9, at 4:54 p.m.

   Tidehaven ISD trustee Mike Galvan’s school board resignation was unanimously approved during the regular Monday night meeting.  Board members present included Galvan, Stephen Crow, Mike Pierce, and Eric Kacer, while those absent were Stuart Lynn, Marty Crain, and Cody Frick.

   The final plat of Valor Park was approved by the Planning Commission at its regular meeting Thursday, June 11.  The 47.351-acre Section 2 will add 182 units to the 30 units already completed – for a total of 212 units - east of Avenue M and north of 16th Street.

"County begins long recovery from hurricane" by: Mike Reddell

   Recovery from Hurricane Beryl’s punishing winds and tidal surges last week is underway in Matagorda County.     Beryl brought 90 mph winds – wind gusts up to 125 mph were reported by Bay City police - and a tidal surge when it struck Matagorda about 4 a.m. Monday, July 8.
