Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:  On July 21, at 12:12 a.m., responded to a motor vehicle fire at the 900 block of Avenue D in Van Vleck.  On July 22, at 02:47 a.m., responded to smoke in a building at the 3000 block of Golden.

Tidehaven ISD trustee Mike Galvan’s school board resignation was unanimously approved during the regular Monday night meeting.  Board members present included Galvan, Stephen Crow, Mike Pierce, and Eric Kacer, while those absent were Stuart Lynn, Marty Crain, and Cody Frick.

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz connected with county leaders concerning Hurricane Beryl Monday afternoon before surveying the storm’s damage in Sargent.

The final plat of Valor Park was approved by the Planning Commission at its regular meeting Thursday, June 11.  The 47.351-acre Section 2 will add 182 units to the 30 units already completed – for a total of 212 units - east of Avenue M and north of 16th Street.

Recovery from Hurricane Beryl’s punishing winds and tidal surges last week is underway in Matagorda County.     Beryl brought 90 mph winds – wind gusts up to 125 mph were reported by Bay City police - and a tidal surge when it struck Matagorda about 4 a.m. Monday, July 8.
