   Unofficial March 5 Primary final vote totals show Rick DeLeon defeated Philip Hester for Matagorda County Sheriff in the Republican Primary Tuesday.     A total of 5,953 of the county’s 21,800 registered voters, or 27.31%, cast ballots in the joint primary – 18 of 18 precincts reporting.

"Playground equipment damaged by fire" By Dan Shook

   Playground equipment at Duncan Park, 612 Duncan Avenue, was ablaze when the Bay City Police Department, Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, and Bay City Fire Marshal answered the fire call at about 10:20 p.m. March 8.

"Commissioners OK Shoshana Storage Project reinvestment zone" by: Jessica Shepard

  Commissioners unanimously approved the Shoshana Storage Project, LLC reinvestment zone during their meeting Monday morning.  All commissioners were present for the March 4 meeting.  That action immediately followed a 1-minute public hearing for the zone.

   Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation partnered with Anchor QEA for a flood risk management study public meeting last week.

"Council approves contract for 5th Street waterline assessment" by: Jessica Shepard

   City council members unanimously approved a contract with Garver Engineering to do an assessment of the 5th Street waterline during their regular meeting last week.  Becca Sitz was the only council member absent at the Feb. 27 meeting.

"Wellness Matagorda looks at YMCA for aquatic center partnership" by: Jessica Shepard

   Wellness Matagorda board members recently met with YMCA of The Golden Crescent CEO Bud Oliver to discuss the future of an aquatic center in partnership with YMCA.  There were also community partners and concerned parties at the meeting.
