"Breakwater to be rebid" by: Mike Reddell

   The Sargent Breakwater and Beach Nourishment project will be rebid after the original bid failed to meet qualifications, Precinct 2 Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum said last week.

   Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar sent cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $980.9 million in local sales tax allocations for March, 2.2 percent less than in March 2023.   These allocations are based on sales  made in January by businesses that report tax monthly.

   Bay City Interim City Manager Scotty Jones and Mayor Robert Nelson welcomed citizens to a public “Town Hall Meeting” to discuss strategic planning on March 16.  “Strategic planning becomes more important as we move forward into budget season,” Jones explained.

3 escape Wadsworth home fire uninjured

   Three residents escaped uninjured from a Wadsworth residential fire at about 9 p.m. Monday, March 11.  The Wadsworth Volunteer Fire Department, the Matagorda Volunteer Fire Department, and Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office were sent to a structure fire at 90 6th St. in Wadsworth Monday, March 11.

BC man arrested for sexual assault of child

   Bay City police arrested a 49-year-old Bay City man on an active warrant charging him with aggravated sexual assault of a child.    Humberto Sanchez was arrested on the aggravated sexual assault of a child charge at his home in the 3700 block of 4th Street at 8:19 p.m. Wednesday, March 13.
