"County approves applying for indigent defense grant" by: Mike Reddell

District Judge Denise Fortenberry’s recommendation Commissioners Court to apply for a Texas Indigent Defense Commission grant – along with Wharton County – at the court’s meeting Monday morning, May 6.  “We don’t have enough attorneys” on the list of public defenders, the judge told commissioners.

Almost 30 people got their basic introduction to beekeeping last week.  Bee Love TX owner Cheryl Wilson led the Matagorda County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office’s “Beekeeping 101” April 30 workshop.  Wilson explained the basic tools and equipment needed to start beekeeping in one’s backyard.

Police probe shooting on Hamman Rd

A 19-year-old was wounded and taken by helicopter to Houston for treatment following a shooting on Hamman Road at about 8:46 p.m. Friday, April 26, Bay City police said.

Bay City Volunteer Fire Department:  On April 11, at 6:50 p.m., responded to a smoke smell at the 5600 block of 7th.  On April 12, at 12:17 a.m., responded to a smoke smell at the 3300 block of Avenue F.  On April 16, at 2:36 p.m., responded to a grass fire at the 1700 block of Spruce.
