Precinct 2 Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum updated Commissioners Court about near-drownings at Matagorda Beach last weekend, during the court’s regular meeting Monday, May 8. There were five near-drownings and two more from a capsized boat, Estlinbaum said.

"Voters reject Matagorda Harbor expansion by large margin" by: Mike Reddell

Voters overwhelmingly rejected the $68 million bond issue to expand Matagorda Harbor proposed by the Port of Bay City Authority in the May 6 elections. The proposal went down with 2,121 votes against, or 84.57%, and 387 votes for, or 15.43%.

Commissioners Court accepted the tax abatement application from Tenaris Maverick Tube Corporation in a split vote at its meeting Monday, May 1. County Judge Bobby Seiferman told the court it just had to vote on accepting the application.
