Daytime burglary of a habitation leads to arrest

   Bay City Police officers went to the 2700 block of Avenue E, about a possible burglary of a residence at about 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28.  Officer Vickie Pursley saw a male matching the description given to dispatch.   The 16-year-old male saw Pursley and began to flee on foot.

Estlinbaum completes session of A&M Leadership Academy

   Precinct 2 Commissioner Mike Estlinbaum completed the second of four sessions in the Commissioners Court Leadership Academy (CCLA).  The academy is a highly respected program hosted by the V.G. Young Institute of County Government, part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

   Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) board members unanimously accepted resignations from BCCDC Executive Director Jessica Russell and BCCDC Treasurer Jim Frankson Monday afternoon.  Clint Hewitt and Bruce Krauspkof were the only board members absent.

   Amy Nowlin and Bill Balboa updated Commissioners Court on an oyster garden project that entered the “collect and relocation” phase at the court’s meeting Monday, Oct 27.  Nowlin is the county’s Coastal and Marine Extension Agent and Bill Balboa is with the Matagorda Bay Foundation.

   With a perfect weather forecast for this weekend, the City of Bay City hosts a few seasonal festivities starting Friday afternoon.  Bay City Main Street Program hosts “Downtown Trick-or-Treat” from 3:30-5:30 p.m. around the Matagorda County Courthouse square.

   Bay City ISD trustees unanimously approved repairing the HJ McAllister Administration Building’s roof during their meeting last week.  Trent Tinnin and Priscilla Robinson were the only school board members absent from the Oct. 21 meeting.

"79th annual Bay City Lions Club Rice Festival rice dish winners" by: Jessica Shepard

   Over 100 entries were featured at the annual “Rice Dish Round-Up” Oct. 15.  “We actually received 125 recipes for the contest, but about 120 showed up for judging,” said Matagorda County Extension Office Manager Cynthia Page.

LCRA Arbuckle Reservoir now operational

  Arbuckle Reservoir near Lane City is complete, full and ready to help meet the region’s growing need for water.     The Lower Colorado River Authority announced the reservoir is operational during the LCRA Board of Directors recent meeting in Caldwell.
