"MCEDC talks about Wharton flood control" by: Mike Reddell

   Matagorda County Economic Development Corporation board members discussed reaching out to Wharton County officials for data on flood control measures in that county that could affect Matagorda County at MCEDC’s meeting Oct. 29.

   More than 10,000 ballots were cast in the early voting period in Matagorda County that ended last Friday, County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz told Commissioners Court Monday morning, Nov. 4.  “There were 10,076 votes cast in person,” she said, adding that didn’t include absentee or mail-in ballots.

BCPD narcotics bust yields 2 arrests, drugs

   On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the Bay City Police Department Narcotics Division arrested Brittney Manciaz and Angel Perales, both of Bay City, for the offenses of manufacturing and delivery of controlled substances.  Seized in the arrest were methamphetamine and multiple Ecstasy pills.

Junior High receives threat

   Bay City Junior High School received a phone call of a bomb threat to the campus around 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31.  “The campus immediately evacuated to an alternative site, and our students and staff are indoors during the current inclement weather,” reads Bay City ISD’s Facebook page.

"WCJC Foundation welcomes new leadership"

   The Wharton County Junior College Foundation recently announced Gary Gillen as the new President of its Board of Directors, with Bruce Krauskopf stepping into the role of Vice President.  Their leadership will guide the Foundation’s continued efforts to support WCJC students and programs.
