"Port hears progress on Caney Creek dredging" by: Mike Reddell

   Dredging Caney Creek at the Intracoastal Waterway and improvements at the Matagorda Bait & Tackle were discussed by the Port of Bay City Authority board meeting Sept. 12.  Dredging Caney Creek is aimed at improving navigation on the creek.
Two AEP crewmen and a Westwind helicopter pilot were honored for helping save a Blessing area man who the crew saw lying in a pool of blood on his property after Hurricane Beryl landed. The crewmen, Ronald “Cole” Overcash and Joel Hilburn, saw Edward Gurecky on his driveway, and pilot Marcus Perez immediately landed the helicopter and acted quickly to help Gurecky. BCPD announces results from traffic engagement

   The Bay City Police Department is pleased to report the successful conclusion of our recent high visibility traffic engagement period.   The HVE Period ran from Sept. 9 to Sept. 13, during which time officers conducted 176 traffic stops, resulting in a total of 218 warnings and citations.

United Way: Application process to become partner agency is open

   Matagorda County United Way announced that the application process to become a United Way Partner Agency and receive funding is now open.    Nonprofit, 501(c)(3) human service organizations that provide programs and services in Matagorda and/or Wharton counties are eligible.
