August
When you mix our South Texas heat and humidity, it makes August the ideal month to tackle any indoor air quality, and what none of us like, MOLD.
Without properly managing the humidity it can create issues that affect comfort, health, and building durability.
Measure your indoor humidity (aim 40-60%).
Use a hygrometer and a portable humidifier if needed, especially in bathrooms and laundry rooms.
Address and inspect any visible mold, caulk/repair leaks, dry any wet materials within 48 hours, and replace any saturated insulation or drywall.
You can also improve your ventilation where moisture is generated; run bathroom fans during and after showers, vent dryers outdoors, and use range hoods when cooking.
Check and clean attic crawlspace moisture barriers.
Think about adding proper grading/drainage around your foundation.
One of the best options for improving filtration for health concerns is a HEPA air purifier.
These are best in bedrooms and living areas (distinct from system filters).
Control pests and allergens by sealing entry points, washing bedding regularly, and removing carpets where there is high humidity.
