Despite a significant difference in yards gained, the Tidehaven Tigers lost to the Goliad Tigers 25-20 there last Friday.
The Tigers compiled 402 total yards – 281 in passing and 121 yards rushing – to Goliad’s 269-yard total offense.
Tiger quarterback Jericho Talbert was 17 of 27 for the 281 yards, with a touchdown and an interception.
Klaiber Ashton was Talbert’s leading receiver with 70 yards on 7 catches and a touchdown.
The Tigers leading rusher was Jullian Stockton, with 47 yards on five carries and a touchdown.
Tidehaven’s Noah Riddick had 40 yards rushing on 9 carries.
“We almost pulled it off, once again too many mistakes on our part,” said Tidehaven Head Coach David Lucio.
“Our special teams were horrible early on, although it improved in the second half.
“We lost our kicker right before the season started to a major injury outside of football, so we’ve struggled a bit in his absence,” Lucio noted.
“We’ve had a number of injuries to key players.
“We lost a starting middle linebacker, and a starting defensive end,” the coach added.
“The biggest hit was the loss of our quarterback against Ganado,” Lucio said.
“We’ve had to reshuffle some things on both sides of the ball.
“We built our offense around our quarterback Stratton Crow’s strength, now we’ve had to go back to the drawing board to fit what we have now.
“It’s going to take a little time to get our footing but we will get there.
“We’ve had to rely on some young guys to step up, including a freshman quarterback.
If we can manage to stay healthy, we should be pretty salty by district.
“We’ve lost to two good teams, while dealing with a ton of adversity,” Lucio said.
“We will continue to do what we always do, work to get better each week and see where it takes us.”
