   Cattle have been crossing the lower Colorado River just above where it enters the Gulf of Mexico for just over 100 years now.     The Huebner family has been swimming their herd of cattle each spring and fall at the mouth of the Colorado since about 1919.

Allenhurst 1st new townsite east of Bay City

Allenhurst Community and Cemetery    In 1905 Allenhurst was the first new townsite east of Bay City on the newly-completed St. Louis, Brownsville, and Mexico Railway (SLB&M).      The townsite was named after Allentown, Pennsylvania, the birthplace of Jeff N.

Moore House built for a prominent leader

   The D.P. and Louise Moore home was built on block 60 in 1902 by builders Hatchett and Large.     The land was purchased from David Swickheimer on Nov. 20, 1894.     Lots 4 - 9 - 2404 Ave. E - were for the homesite, and the other half was used for pasture.

Halfmoon Lighthouse once guided mariners on Matagorda Bay

   Halfmoon Reef Lighthouse still welcomes visitors to Port Lavaca. However, having been moved ashore from its perch above the waters of Matagorda Bay, it now performs that function for travelers entering Port Lavaca from the east on Texas 35, rather than for mariners arriving from the gulf.
