"Emilee Schneider chooses HCU for kinesiology degree" by: Jessica Shepard

   Emilee Schneider is the Valedictorian of Van Vleck High School’s Class of 2024.  Emilee is the daughter of Jonathan and Angela Schneider and the granddaughter of Berny and Pam Schneider and Liz LaViola and the late Jeff LaViola.  She is the sister of Jacob and Cole Schneider.

   Van Vleck High School’s class of 2024 Salutatorian is Alexis Grace Gibbens.  Alexis is the daughter of Nell Gibbens and David and Karen Gibbens.  She is also the granddaughter of Martha Cone, Dave and Velma Gibbens, and Gary and Alice Davis.

"Van Vleck to graduate 78" by: Jessica Shepard

   A total of 78 seniors will graduate from Van Vleck High School starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Burl McKinney Stadium.  The stadium is predicted to be packed with graduates’ friends, family members, and peers.  Overall, the seniors earned an estimated $1,006,880 in scholarship funds.

"BCISD banquet recognizes employees" by: Jessica Shepard

   Bay City ISD recognized and celebrated its employees with its annual employee appreciation banquet on May 16.  Guests were treated to a catered meal and live music by the Bay City High School Jazz Band, along with a popcorn bar and several clowns providing live entertainment and balloon art.

   Tidehaven High School graduated over 60 students during its commencement ceremony at Delvin Taska Stadium Friday, May 17.

Memorial Day closings

   Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 27, this year.  Local closures include city, Federal, and county offices.  Federal closures are the United States Postal Service and all banks.  “GFL garbage collection will be delayed one day,” reads the GFL website.

"Reel Reviews: ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ set 300 years forward in franchise" by: Jessica Shepard

   Like most folks, I’ve grown up with various incarnations and entries into the “Planet of the Apes” franchise since its 1963 French novel inception.  “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” is the latest entry and frankly, not something I found worthy of the time spent watching it.
