   Families and friends filled the Van Vleck High School auditorium last Sunday to hear children of all ages perform in the annual Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Association’s (MCFLA) “Talent Show & Public Speaking” contest.

Phillips 66 honors ’26 Science/Math Teachers

   Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery recently honored eight area high school educators teaching in the science or math fields with the 2025 Science/Math Teacher Recognition Award.

   Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association’s (MCFLA) 2026 Fair and Rodeo royalty winners were chosen last weekend.  Scollie Saha was crowned the 2026 MCFLA Rodeo Queen Saturday, Feb. 21.

   Over 100 Matagorda County residents attended the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) “Bay City Relief Route Feasibility Study” last Thursday.  The public meeting was held in person on Feb. 19 and will be available virtually until Friday, March 6.
Matagorda County Retired Teachers Association (MCRTA) members clean gently used books and organize them along with the new books to be given to children in Matagorda County. Membership dues and donations pay for the cost of the books. The books are distributed to MRMC for newborns, to doctor’s offices, and at children’s events.
